Melting enthalpies and molar heats of some intermetallic compounds of tellurium

A number of alloys of tellurium have a very pronounced tendency towards the formation of metastable solids. The current knowledge of the thermodynamic properties of tellurium alloys, on the other hand, is rather incomplete. The reported investigation has, in this connection, the objective to contribute data for a study of the metastable alloys on a thermodynamic basis. The enthalpy of formation was obtained on the basis of a determination of the enthalpy of fusion, taking into account the composition of the eutectic between the corresponding compound and a pure component. The measurements were performed with the aid of a differential scanning calorimeter. The molar heats of the intermetallic compounds of interest were determined at 385 K. Enthalpies of fusion, mixing, and formation are listed for AuTe2, In2Te5, Tl2Te3, and Bi2Te3. Another table shows the molar heats for AuTe2, GaTe, Ga2Te3, Tl5Te3, TlTe, Tl2Te3, Sb2Te3, Bi14Te6, Bi2Te, BiTe, and Bi2Te3. Attention is also given to the molar heats of Sb2Te3 and Bi2Te3 as a function of temperature.
