Microwave-assisted synthesis of sheet-shaped Co3O4 for reversible Li-storage: Regulation of structure and performance

To elucidate the relation between the structure and Listorage performances, a kind of controllable and porous nano sheetshaped Co3O4 (Co3O4-AS) was constructed from nano β-Co(OH)2 precursor, which was obtained from common Co(NO3)2 solution without any templates under microwave radiation conditions. A probable assembly mechanism was proposed accordingly on basis of enough analyses and comparison. After its structure was characterized by SEM, XRD, TEM and N2 absorption/desorption isotherms, Co3O4-AS was effectively applied for high reversible Listorage anode in lithium-ion battery, i.e., a reversible capacity of 920 mAh g–1 after 100 cycles and a reserved capacity of 445 mAh g–1 at 5C. The improved property might be attributed to the remarkable synergistic effects between porous structures and sheet-shaped morphologies, resulting in short and facile diffusion, good electronicionic conductivity, and structural stability during cycling.
